For nearly 25 years, Vogel Alcove has provided free quality early childhood development services for Dallas' youngest victims of poverty: homeless children 6 weeks to 5 years old. Vogel Alcove is the only free comprehensive early childhood education program in the city of Dallas whose primary focus is to provide free childcare and case management for children and their families residing at 18 local emergency shelters, domestic violence shelters and housing programs. th+a provided architectural services for the renovation of Vogel Alcove's new location at the century-old City Park Elementary south of downtown.
Jubilee Park and Community Center
In 1997, Jubilee Park & Community Center was formed with the mission to be a catalyst for community renewal and enrichment in the surrounding South Dallas/Fair Park neighborhood. Their approach is a unique, comprehensive model for community revitalization, addressing each of the main factors that create vitality in a community: education, public safety, public health, housing, and community ownership. Longtime th+a clients, our firm designed the two Head Start facilities at Jubilee Park. th+a also provided pro-bono design services for the renovation of the Teen Center.
Dallas Theater Center, Project Discovery
Created in 1986, Project Discovery provides unparalleled access to the artistic process and experience free-of-charge to thousands of students annually. Targeting economically disadvantaged secondary school students in Title I public schools, DTC provides tickets, transportation, scripts, and performance guides at no cost to students or schools. This program will serve more than 5,500 students and teachers this season.
North Texas Food Bank Food 4 Kids
Elementary school children on the free and reduced-price school meal program often face hunger when these meals are not available on weekends. The Food 4 Kids program provides backpacks full of nonperishable, kid-friendly food for them to take home on Friday afternoons. Approximately 11,000 chronically hungry children in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Rockwall and Fannin counties received backpacks full of food each weekend during the school year.
